The Top 5 Startup Guide to SXSW

South-by-Southwest (SXSW), Austin’s annual tech and arts mecca, starts this weekend. SXSW serves as a crossroads, a hub for what’s new and what’s next in music, movies, art and tech. With hundreds of thousands of pilgrims flooding the city to view thousands of shows and installations, the festival can feel like a maze without the proper map. Here’s our guide to five phenomenal stops for startups at SXSW 2018.

Also, fellow Houstonians should keep an eye out for the Houston Exponential team throughout the weekend and be sure to use #HOUSxSW and #TEAMHOUSTON to help showcase our great city!

If you could have one superpower, what would it be? Rohit Bhargava can predict the future. His group, The Non-Obvious Company, have successfully predicted 100 emerging trends in 8 years. Here, he’ll feature 7 new trends from the 2018 edition of his award-winning research series. Catch a glimpse of the future Saturday March 10 from 5:00-6:00 pm.

This one hits home for us. If you don’t live in San Francisco or Boston, how can you turn your project into a money magnet? Our friends at Capitol Factory aim to show you with talks from three Texas-based investors. Learn the answer to finding funding today from 12:30-1:30 pm.

Disrupting an established space is never easy. Disrupting a stiff, regulated industry is even harder. Stop by this talk, presented by CI&T, to listen to leaders in banking and pharma discuss multiple methods to the madness on Monday March 12 from 2:00-3:00 pm.

Tech, as far as the eye can see, is mostly male and white. This panel, lead by Amazon Music’s Latasha Gillespie, will investigate the state of diversity (or lack thereof) in tech, and discuss what work remains to be done. Dive into diversity Tuesday March 13 from 11:00 am -12:00 pm.

What more can I say? Capital One presents an aptly titled talk with Major League Hacking (MLH)’s Jonathan Gottfried. MLH provides a platform for over 250 student hackathons a year. They’re impressive, important, and impactful, and yes- they’re dope. See why Monday March 12 from 2:00-3:00 pm.
