The Cannon Announces Recipient of Second Annual Insperity Innovation Scholarship

[Houston, Texas | July 16, 2019] The Cannon, a coworking space and entrepreneurship hub, today announced the recipient of its second annual Insperity® Innovation Scholarship. Shoot, a one-year-old marketplace designed to improve the efficiency and experience of booking photographers, videographers and photography-related experiences is this year’s recipient. The scholarship provides Shoot with a six-month Dedicated Desk membership at The Cannon.

Shoot, led by co-founders Simbai Mutandiro and Alina Merida, has already launched its beta platform (http://shootwiithshoot.com) and is in the process of launching the next version as they wrap up final classes at the University of Houston.

“Simbai and Alina represent exactly the kind of self-starting founders we want to have in our growing community, getting Shoot off the ground while balancing a full course load at the University of Houston,” said The Cannon’s Founder & CEO Lawson Gow. “We can’t wait to welcome them into our community and work with them through the exciting early adventures of entrepreneurship.”

“Our relationship with The Cannon and the Insperity Innovation Scholarship are part of our initiative to help startups become successful more quickly by connecting and collaborating with like-minded individuals,” said Larry Shaffer, Insperity Senior Vice President of Marketing and Business Development. “We congratulate Shoot on receiving this scholarship and wish the co-founders continued success in furthering their entrepreneurial dream.”

Mutandiro and Merida are looking forward to joining The Cannon’s community and taking Shoot to new heights. “Houston is on the cutting edge of technology innovation, and we’re honored to be working out of one of the places that will come to be known as an innovation launch pad,” said Mutandiro. Merida added, “Outside of the excitement of taking Shoot to the next level, I am personally thrilled to be in a place where so many strong and educated women can have a place to break ceilings and kick in the doors of the tech world.”

Houston-based companies with three to eight employees were eligible to apply for the Insperity Innovation Scholarship. The other three finalists, Delfin, Social Chains and SOTAOG will also receive Open Desk memberships at The Cannon for six months. EllieGrid, last year’s recipient, will be staying in The Cannon community and moving into the completed Cannon.

Shoot will begin its residence at The Cannon when it opens later this month.
