Arbor School Bingo Night Raises over $15K!

As we build out the vision for The Cannon, two of our main goals are (and always will be) to create opportunities to give back to the Houston Community, and to go above and beyond in supporting the companies and members that continue to grow as part of our family. Last night, we had the opportunity to do both.

Jacob Robinson and his wife Melissa have had a trying year. The CEO of 1 Stone Solutions, a professional commercial cleaning company, Jacob has been one of our core members since we opened doors last fall. Early last spring, Jacob & Melissa’s 1-year old son Pierce contracted bacterial meningitis and emerged from a 75-day hospital stay profoundly deaf and mentally handicapped due to a significant brain injury from the illness.

As the couple searched for a place for Pierce start his education, one that could manage his unique challenges effectively, they came upon The Arbor School. The Arbor School, which is dependent entirely on tuition and donations and receives no government funds, provides an intensive education program to children with special needs. More importantly, they will not turn a child away. Pierce now has an educational home, and in just a few months, Jacob & Melissa have already seen marked improvement thanks to the hard work and dedication of The Arbor School teachers and staff.

Which brings us to approximately 6 weeks ago, when Jacob and Krissy Clapp, a Rice MBA student and friend of the Robinson family who served as an amazing de-facto event coordinator/promotional manager/bingo operations director for the event, came to our staff with the idea of hosting a Bingo Night fundraiser for The Arbor School. We were thrilled to help such a great cause, but even our high expectations were shattered once the doors opened last night.

Over 200 friends, family and supporters of the Robinson family and The Arbor School braved the rainy weather and packed The Cannon last night. The crowd played multiple rounds of bingo, bid on silent auction items, and enjoyed refreshing beer from No Label as well as delicious meals from El Patio and House of Hoops BBQ. And, most importantly, raising over $15,000 for The Arbor School, by far eclipsing even the most ambitious goals for the event.

Last night’s success can mostly be traced to the hard work of Jacob, Melissa, Krissy and numerous volunteers combined with the exceptional generosity of the attendees and event partners. But without a great cause like The Arbor School, that dedicated drive to help would not exist. We were thrilled to be a part of such an amazing event and look forward to many more!
